In 2024, this will be the 20th edition of the tournament. Previously, the tournament was a WTA 250 event, but this year, it has been upgraded to WTA 500, which means, the winner will receive 500 WTA points.
World’s number 13 Daria Kasatkina is the top seed of the tournament. She was defeated by Peyton Stearns in the Round of 64 of the US Open. Stearns will face former British number 1 EmmaRaducanu in the first round. Â
Liudmila Samsonova is the second seed in the tournament. The Russian reached the round of 16 of the US Open. Both Liudmila and Daria have received a direct ticket for the second round.
Jessica Pegula is the defending champion of the tournament. She withdrew this year, taking a vacation after being the runner-up of the US Open 2024. Like her, other top-ranked players like Iga Swiatek, and Elena Rybakina withdrew themselves from Seoul.

The total WTA Korea Open 2024 Purse is $922,573. The winner of the tournament will get a payout of $142,000. There has been a huge increase in the payout this year. In 2023, the total prize money was $259,303 and the winner share was only $34,228. The runners-up will get $87,655 and the players reaching the semifinals will receive $87,655.
