The LPGA is returning to the Columbia Edgewater Country Club, as the Portland Classic is scheduled to start on August 1. This year, the prize money has revved higher, $250k more than the previous year’s
LPGA has shown some amazing improvement in their prize money in recent years. The Portland Classic is a nice example of this. 2021 the tournament offered $1.4 Million USD to the golfers, which increased to $1.5 Million in 2022.
In 2023, we didn’t notice any changes in the total prize money amount. It was kept the same as the previous year. But in 2024, the total Portland Classic 2024 Purse has raised to $1.75 Million USD, a record purse for the event.
This increment in the tournament’s total prize money has affected the individual payouts. In 2023, Thai golfer Chanettee Wannasaen won the event. She received $$225,000 as the winning payout. But in 2024, the winner of the Portland Classic will receive $262,500.
The runner-up will get $$165,070 in 2024, which was $140,305 last year. Xiyu Lin took the second spot in the tournament. In 2024, the third-ranked player will take $119,746 as a payout.
The tournament will miss many star golfers due to the Paris Olympics. Defending champion Chanettee Wannasaen will return with more experience. She has won the Greater Toledo LPGA classic most recently. Though she was cut out from her last tournament, the Portland Classic can be a comeback for her.
The winner of the 2022 edition of the Portland Classic is Andrea Lee. Lee finished third in this year’s U.S. Women’s Open. Allisen Corpuz will start the tournament as the highest-ranked player. She has shown consistency this season but hasn’t won any tournament. She finished in 25th position at her last tournament in the CP Women’s Open.
