The next NASCAR playoff event will kick off at the Watkin Glen International located in New York on September 15th at 3:00 PM. Sponsored by Go Bowling the event will be the second one of the round of 16. Here we will learn about the prize money of the racing event.
The event will feature a total of 90 laps run divided into three stages where 38 teams will vye to get into the next round. For the first two stages it’s 20 laps each, then the final stage will feature the remaining 50 laps. Subsequently over the course of the race the drivers will have to travel 202.86 (355.400 km) in total on the 2.45 mile long track.
William Byron is the defending champion of the Watkins Glen track as he won the 2023 title. Byron will be defending his title from the 11th in the lineup from the Hendrick Motorsports flying the number 24. On top of the lineup we have Ross Chastain at #1 from the Trackhouse Racing.
Then we have the winner from the previous race, Quaker State 400 at Atlanta, Joey Logano at No. 22 who has already secured his spot for the round of 12. Lastly we have Denny Hamlin just 2 points above the bottom. Despite sitting at the bottom he has good records as he finished in the top 5 among the four previous races on the track.
The Prize Pool and Winner’s Share of the Prize Money
The Watkins Glen race will have a total purse of $7,572,831 for the Cup series and as for the Xfinity series the purse is set to $1,312,465 as mentioned by Bob Pockrass on X.
The payout is nearly $400,000 more from the last season which was $7,154,312 in 2023. Besides that there is a $50,000 increase in the Xfinity series payout hitting the $1.3 million mark. Unlike the Quaker State 400 Watkins Glen will not feature a truck Series.
From the total purse the champion driver will receive a 10 percent of the prize pool as his payout. The champion driver will receive prize money worth nearly $750,000 from the total purse. After that the rest of the purse will be distributed among the competing teams.
